HUSS Key to $300 Million Diesel Emissions Reduction Stimulus Funding

Palm Springs, California, March 4, 2009 — On February 17, 2009, President Obama signed into law the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).  This $789 billion stimulus package includes $300 million for the Diesel Emissions Reduction Act (DERA) administered by the Environmental Protection Agency. Funding is available to heavy-duty diesel vehicle and equipment owners to retrofit their fleets.

Competitive grant applications for ARRA funding for National Diesel Emissions Reduction Program will be available in early March 2009 with a submission deadline of April 13, 2009. The applications will be reviewed by the EPA in May with final project review and awards to follow in June.  All projects must be completed during the Project Implementation window of June 9, 2008 to September 10, 2010.

Retrofit are the most cost-effective and viable solution for emission reductions
HUSS LLC is the leading supplier in diesel particulate filter that qualify for DERA funding that is now available for on-road and off-road diesel projects. Eligible entities include: Regional, state, local, tribal or port agencies with jurisdiction over transportation or air quality.  Eligible entities may apply to get funding for the various options to reduce diesel emissions like vehicle replacement, engine repower or retrofit with an exhaust system. The use of retrofit technologies is 100% funded under the DERA program, engine repowers are 75% funded and only 25% of the costs for a vehicle replacement is funded, which makes the retrofit solution the most cost-effective and viable solution for the end-customer.

HUSS products help reducing PM emissions as well as Black Carbon
All ARRA of 2009 DERA grants will focus on promoting economic recovery, preserving
and/or creating jobs, and reducing diesel emissions. HUSS LLC offers with its portfolio of diesel particulate filters the best options to apply for DERA funding. All HUSS retrofit systems are capable of collecting up to 99.9% of diesel particulate matter (PM) emissions, exceeding substantially the CARB requirements and offering therefore the highest possible emission reduction of any product in the market right now.

By reducing 99.9% of the PM emissions the HUSS system also reduces tremendously the Black Carbon contribution to Global Warming of each retrofitted vehicle. Black carbon as a potent climate forcing agent, is estimated to be the second largest contributor to global warming after carbon dioxide (CO2). Because black carbon remains in the atmosphere only for a few weeks, reducing black carbon emissions could be one of the fastest means of slowing climate change in the near-term. Given black carbon’s relatively short lifespan, reducing black carbon emissions would reduce warming within weeks. Control of black carbon, “particularly from fossil-fuel sources, is very likely to be the fastest method of slowing global warming” in the immediate future, according to Dr. Mark Jacobson of Stanford University. Creating green jobs
Despite the current state of the economy, the sales figures of mobile source emission control technologies for on-road and off-road applications in the U.S. are expected to grow over the next decade to $26 billion in 2010 and to $36 billion in 2020 according to data collected by MECA (Manufacturers of Emission Control Technology Association). In terms of employment, emission control-related jobs have been the foundation of the green economic movement in the U.S. that is set to grow rapidly over the next 10 years. “Based on our market experience over the last years an average of 1 job is and will be created with every six (6) HUSS retrofit filter installation, said HUSS LLC’s North American Director, Peter Bruenke.
